Meet an ISC Engineer - Dan Theisen!

Dan Theisen of ISC

ISC is constantly striving to provide better service to our customers, and the most significant way we do that is by hiring hands-on network administrators who are passionate about open source. We are proud to introduce another recent addition to our support engineering team, Dan Theisen!

Dan started with us in early November 2021, and has hit the ground running. So far he has been primarily focusing on investigating customer issues that appear to be bugs, defects, or missing functionality in Kea DHCP and BIND 9. He hopes to develop his experience with both codebases so he can make useful contributions to them in the future.

Dan got his first job in the tech industry at age 16, when he was still in high school, and he’s never looked back. He started by asking for a tour of a local data center, which turned into a part-time job as a technician. The years since then have been spent focusing on customer support, quality assurance, and system/network engineering at a variety of enterprises both large and small.

He is happy to join the ISC team and says, “I greatly appreciate the opportunity I have to work with such a knowledgeable and dedicated team on software as important as BIND and Kea.” He has chosen to work in the open source world because “I prefer spending my time on software that is accessible to and usable by everyone. Open source code and open standards are incredibly important, because without them, commercial products would likely struggle to interoperate outside of strictly controlled corporate interests and use cases. I reject the philosophy that everything should always be about making as much money as possible.”

Dan adds, “Messing with computers has always been a hobby as much as a profession for me, and my technology interests generally lead me to tinker with a lot of different software and hardware in my free time. I believe I bring a broad set of general knowledge about networking, systems engineering, software development, and information security to the table at ISC. I love learning about the inner workings of Linux and other operating systems, and it is exciting when I can apply that knowledge to my work.”

Like several other ISC staff members, Dan is interested in ham radio and operates his own home networking lab setup. We are thrilled to have him on board and know that our customers will benefit from his insight and experience!

Thank you for using ISC’s software and we hope you have enjoyed this peek behind the ISC curtain. We hope that sharing a little about us helps strengthen our connection to our customers. We welcome your feedback at marketing@isc.org!
