Hello Experts,

While going through the RFC 2131, i got to know that DHCP client can include option 51 "Lease Time Option" to indicate to DHCP Server the about of lease time it is interested in. Though it was mentioned in the RFC that Server may/ may not oblige the Client's request depending upon the implementaion of the server.

My query here is :-

In which message should the client include the desided lease time. i.e in DHCPDISCOVER or in DHCPREQUEST.

Is there any precedence in between above two messages.

Suppose DHCP client included the desided lease time (i.e X days ) in DHCP DISCOVER message but DHCP server replied with DHCP OFFER with offered lease time as (Y days). So What lease time the DHCP client should use while sending DHCPREQUEST message towards Server (X or Y).

Please through light with your valuable suggessions.

Thanks & Regards,
Gaurav.
