MAC address not found, maybe slightly off topic.

Dear dhcp-users,

This may be a bit off topic. I'm trying to boot a pxe client by passing
pxegrub. I compiled grub with --enable-preset-menu --enable-sis900
--enable-diskless. The client boots but when it processes bootp I get the
following error:

bootp
Found sis900 @ 0x8800, ROM address 0xff80
Probing...[SIS900]sis900_probe: Error EEPROM read FFFF
sis900_probe: Error MAC address not found
[SIS900]sis900_probe: Error EERPOM read FFFF
sis900_probe: Error MAC address not found

Error 12: Invalid device request.

Any ideas?
