Do you mean compiling BIND with the memory leak fix and without the
FreeBSD port change by "in the previous manner"?  For this particular
memory leak problem, there's nothing wrong with it.  But then you
won't benefit from the other (main) advantage of atomic operations:
performance improvement.  So, you'll still be happier with applying
two patches.
