Should I use bind for SPF records?

This is extremely unlikely and I wonder how you came to this
conclusion. The vast majority of domains have no SPF at all and they
certainly can send email to gmail!

Standard DNS resolution. There is no difference between SPF records
and, say, AAAA records or MX records.
