Strings named.conf in all files, gives me one entry : /usr/sbin/named which
points to /etc/bind/named.conf the one posted...

Slocate named.conf slocate bind confirms me there is only one named.conf in
all system... and bind works under /etc/bind

Strace ??? don't know what I should trace, so hard to use...

What I wonder is if rights are correctly set for bind to work ... all files
in /etc/bind are under owner / group : root (0) and chmod 644
Is this supposed to be ok ????

If named.conf has not been loaded, how could bind even start ???

Yours

In the log you posted, there is no:

Jul 15 15:57:45 ns2014342 named[25929]: zone cardiffusion.com/IN: loaded
serial NNNN

(which would indicate a successful loading)

or a similar message for a failed login.

(You can 'grep cardiffusion.com $LOGFILE' to check.)

So, there is one sure thing: the named.conf you post is not the one used by
BIND.

Time to use strings and strace...
