	Just for the record.  named must be compilable using the
	vendor supplied compilers.  It should also compile using
	gcc on the same platform.

	The build test lab includes a number of different OS vendor
	compilers as welll as gcc on a number of different platforms
	with different endian and word sizes.  Most of the portability
	issues are caught there.

	There are build combinations where gcc won't work but the
	vendor's compilers will.
