intermittent SERVFAIL problem

Hi,

our servers reply with intermittent SERVFAIL answers. We have no idea
what causes them. We verified with a test record (TTL 1) that bind9
simply stops asking the primary server and returns the error instead.
After a few seconds, it returns back to normal -- until the next time.

This is bind 9.2.4. We haven't seen the problem before today.
It hits most domains indiscriminately.

Any ideas? Does anybody else see this? Might upgrading to 9.3.1 help?
