Upgrade to BIND 9.3.1

I've just removed BIND 9.2.1 and installed 9.3.1. If I issue a named -v it 
tells me that 9.3.1 is installed. Everything has been installed under 
/usr/local/sbin but the service isn't running. How do I start it? If I try 
'service named start' (which used to work) I just get 'unrecognized 
service'.

This is giving me a headache.
