@ entries

Hey to all,

During the move of our Web server, I had to change all the DNS records
pointing to the old server. 
To be cleverer this time I changed all the names to CNAMES pointing to
www

Also I changed the @ entry so if someone forgot the "servername" will
be directet to the webpage.

After a while all the chaches where refreshed, and all the zones,
where
I added a CNAME to the @ entry didn't work. I checked the logfiles and
found out, that the @ entry must be a A record.

After resolving the problem I took a look at the manual. There is no
statement about only using A records with @ entries.

Is that a missing entry in the manual, or is there a special reason?
