RFC 1034 & 1035 have some good information about the DNS.
BIND, as an implementation of the DNS follows these rules.
You may find additional documentation in your local book
archive, look for "DNS & BIND" by Cricket Liu and published
by O'Riley. There are also -thousands- of helpful pointers
on the net, from slide-packs on basic DNS to interactive tutorials.
Fire up your favorite http-driven search engine for more
	details.

master/slave are two modes of authoritaive servers. when changes
are made to the master, slave servers will pick up the changes.
the triggers are defined in the SOA RDATA attributes and in
the named.conf configuration file. these triggers tune the
frequency of transfer, among other things.

enjoy your homework and please report back to the class
next week on the results of your studies.
