BIND 4 is so old, it's not even funny any more.

BIND 4, if my memory serves me correctly, does not have the ability to
selectively forward. Moreover, once you "override" forwarding in BIND 4, by
defining a zone as "primary" (= "master", in more modern terminology) or
"secondary' (= "slave"), then I think BIND 4 turns off forwarding for that
entire branch of the namespace, i.e. in your case there is no way to forward
queries for deeperin.my.fake.zone while at the same time being master or slave
for my.fake.zone or fake.zone. Back in the old days, we used to have to make
our BIND 4 nameservers slaves for *every* zone that we wanted it to know
about, and in our case that meant hundreds and hundreds of slave zone
definitions. Thank goodness BIND 8 obviated all of that nonsense.
