How often with the slave get the new values from the ddns

Depends on whether you are using IXFR, and if so which version
of BIND.

The SOA refresh and related values let you assume a maximum, but
with BIND 9 you can arrange for the transfer to be pretty much
instant. See the Administrator reference manual on IXFR and
Dynamic DNS.
