How WindowsXX Systems know who to try to Update

	I probably have this archived somewhere, but have not hit
the right key word or subject line.

	When Windows clients attempt to update the dns, do they
use the dns information which is either stored on the client or
gotten via dhcp to determine which name servers to try to update
or do they figure out the domain and do a SOA query against that
domain?

	The question came up here and I know I've seen the answer
somewhere, but I am not sure where or when I saw it.
