Is the gatewayconnections.com zone held on the name server in
question? It isn't clear from your question.

Irrelevant, you want to test server function, not client
function. Client function and nslookup will depend on content of
/etc/resolv.conf, and may have nothing to do with the local copy
of BIND.

What does "dig @127.0.0.1 ns.gatewayconnections.com" show if
types on the nameserver?

You need to demonstrate named started and loaded zones first!

I doubt it.

Have you read the log file from start-up of named? Anything
interesting or unclear in that log?
