Changing the slave zones to master would be easiest and fastest way to keep
serving authoritative data, until you can bring the masters back on line.

Subject: Slave server problems

Hi,

Please excuse me if I don't talk straight. I'm sitting
in a 1/2 dark datacenter 4 blocks from "Ground Zero"
and have had 10 hours sleep since Tuesday when I came
in (And haven't left since). (Oh, this is Bind 8)

We only recently lost the generator, but before we did
we were able to have Bryan Pace and Reid Fishler of
Lightning Internet Services, Inc. , the provider of
bandwidth for our on-site/off network 3rd DNS server
build us one off site, and re-direct all traffic to it
under the same IP.

This is a slave server, and is always looking for the
primary to sync to. Due to no power (I'm on a laptop
dialed into NJ to get this out), these systems aren't
responding.

I'm afraid that after the time set to expire (Some
only 24 hours), that we'll stop advertising zones
period.

Is there something to do, is there some perl script
written or that we can write, or ?????, that would
allow us to keep telling the process that these files
are valid. Do we just re-do all "slave" to "master"?

I really appreciate the help, thanks.
