intermittent resolving errors

Okay, thanks.  That explains that... but I don't
know why it's failing in the first place.

Remember that I said it was an intermittent
failure.

I'm lost on this one.

   If there's a failure when trying to look the name up as you typed it, the
   resolver tries again with the default domain appended, unless you
   explicitly type the name with a "." at the end.
