Hi Jim.

For some time ago, both our BIND servers dumped core and died, and it looks
like some kind of "hacker" attack, but the only thing that happend was that
BIND cored and died.

So, if i should do the same to my servers from the internet (not on console)
how should i do this?

What im trying to do is to prevent the servers to crash in the future, and
then i have to find out what it does.

/ JOD

If you're running the current version of BIND, report the core dump to
bind-bugs or bind9-bugs. Keep the core dump in case it's needed for
analysis. Be sure to check for inconsistencies in shared libraries:
BIND was compiled on a box with shared library version X, but the
executables were copied and ran on a box with version Y shared
libraries. This is the most common explanation why BIND dumps core.

These "new people" don't seem to have a good grasp of what's involved
in making changes to an already running service. Aside from the
dubious merits of tinydns, there are a bunch of other factors to
consider before changing ANY software, like a migration strategy,
testing, changes to standard operating procedures (monitoring, DNS
changes, etc), software maintenance, OS updates and patches,
documentation and so on.

Send it a SIGABRT signal. But why would you want the name server to
dump core and die?
