lame server ...???

A lame server is one which is not authoritative for a domain for which
it is supposed to be authoritative, according to the authoritative
servers of the parent domain.

It would be like your regular doctor referred you to a throat specialist
but that doctor turned out to be a heart specialist instead. That would
be a bad or "lame" referral.

I think the _DNS_and_BIND_ book from O'Reilly (currently 3rd Edition,
with 4th Edition coming soon) explains lame delegations fairly well...
