BIND 4 to BIND 8 differences

Why did you post this twice?
If your zone files were legal according to the various RFC's
then yes it is as easy as convert named.boot to named.conf
and restart. Note as time has gone on BIND has required
stricter comformance.
My recommendation is to convert the named.boot to named.conf,
start the new named and check the logs for errors being
reported. If you have a lot save the errors and go back to
version 4 while you correct the errors reported.
Note named will warn (8.2+) if there is no $TTL saying that
it is using soa minumum instead, ignore these warnings
until you have switched over then correct them.
The only other gotcha is that named now used a system assigned
port for its own queries. This can be controlled via query
source. If you have a firewall between you and the world at
large you may want to fix the port.
