Bind lockups -> upgrade attempt

Hi. Please let me know if I am posting to the wrong list.

I have had numerous intermittent and (so far) non-reproducible issues with
named (Bind 9.1.0) locking up and hogging the cpu. My issues so far seem
to be similar to issues I have seen documented on this mailing list. Based
on what I have read, my best course of action seems to be to upgrade to
Bind 9.1.1. Unfortunately, when I run make it chokes compiling dig with
the error:

cc -pthread -std -g -o dig dig.o
dighost.o ../../lib/dns/libdns.a ../../lib/isc/libisc.a -lpthread
ld:
Unresolved:
__h_errno
make[2]: *** [dig] Error 1

I am running Digital Unix V4.0G on a DEC Alpha 2100. I had originally
upgraded to Bind 9.1.0 from Bind 8.2.3. The upgrade went fine. Since then
I have done the following:

Install Apache 1.3.19
Install Samba 2.07
Install jed B0.99.12
Install GNU m4 1.4
Install vim 5.7
Install groff 1.16.1
Install tcp_wrappers 7.6
Install qpopper 3.1.2
Install most of the latest comprehensive patch from Compaq for DU v4.0G -
patch numbers 19, 24, 26, 42, 58, 63, 76, 116, 149, 164, 167, 172, 178,
186, 2, 3, 101, 103, 132, 180, 184, 37, 40, 48, 50, 105, 114, 147, 169,
174, 59, 77, 188, 60, 61, 137, 126, 20, 43, 53, 56, 80, 107, 145, 161, 176,
99, 31, 46, 93, 140, 97, 28, 47, 70, 87, 122, 151, 159, 182, 95, 9, 84,
190, 11, 12, 85, 118, 120, 128, 153, 155 (listed in the order they appeared
in the patch utility)
Install procmail 3.15.1
Build libmilter from sendmail 8.11.3
Install sendmail 8.11.3
Install Sendmail Restricted Shell
Install pine, pico, and imapd
Install sendmail's makemap
Install sendmail's mailstats
Install sendmail's praliases
Install sendmail's vacation
Install listproc

As far as I know, none of these things should affect any attempt to compile
Bind. Just the same, not only can I not compile Bind 9.1.1, but also
attempting to re-compile Bind 9.1.0 fails with the same error.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,

Frazier.
