Don't that just figure.  I have no hope of getting 9.x.x compiled on my
target OS.

I didn't realise NET::DNS allowed specifying the NS to update... since
I was coding in Perl, anyway, I'll use that.  I figured NET::DNS was
based upon bind and therefore would use the resolver... my
ASSumption.  ;-)
