You might think so, and NSI documentation might lead you to believe so, 
and it even was true at some point in the past, but it's just not the 
case.

I am entirely unfamiliar with Granite Canyon, but if you have them pull 
zone transfers off your primary server by supplying your IP address to 
them, you should be able to get on your feet.  In general, I have my 
nameservers do zone transfers from IP addresses anyway, just in case 
someone mucks something on the primary server.
