Since the Linux-kernel still haven't moved past 2.4, I assume you mean
RedHat 6.2 - have you installed the appropiate RPM's?

By default the path to the deamon itself should be '/usr/sbin/named'.
The initscript you'd use to start the deamon should be called
'/etc/rc.d/init.d/named'
