Well according to Stuart Kwan and Jim Gilhooly(?) at Microsoft, the MS
name server is not derived from BIND. I think they should know because
they wrote the MS nameserver code.

That's a matter of opinion. Some people might consider that to be one
of the biggest disadvantages of the MS DNS. The semantics of WINS are
rather different from those of the DNS. And there are really nasty
security and scaling problems with WINS which should be kept in that
name space and not introduced into the DNS.
