Domainname resolving to a systemname

I'm sort of new to running a DNS server and need help with one thing,
everything else is working good so far.

I want to have the domainname resolve to a specific machine. This machine is
a web server and email relay.

So for example llnl.gov would really resolve to perle.llnl.gov.

I have tried the following in the db config file:

llnl.gov	IN CNAME	perle.llnl.gov

This generates errors in syslog: llnl.gov has CNAME and other data (invalid)...
I have tried this with the native BIND on Solaris7 which I believe is 8.1.2.
I have also tried this with BIND 8.2.2 patch 5 on Solaris7.

Thanks in advance,
Rick
