Nope. All that matters is that the name servers you register for your
domain answer authoritatively for that domain.

You're just confused. The term "primary" (or "master" in modern DNS
jargon) denotes the ultimate authority for a zone. This is where
changes to the zone's contents get made. It has no bearing whatsoever
on the order in which name servers are queried when another name
server looks up names in your domain. In crude terms, the algorithm is
"query the name server that has the lowest round-trip time", not "try
the master server first and if that doesn't work, try each of the slave
(secondary) servers". In fact there's no way for sure of knowing which
name server is the master for some zone or if the master server is
even advertised in any zone data.
