Hi,

By default squid does a nameserver test at startup. You can disable it by
adding -D to the squid command line.
If you want to set up your own nameserver I suggest you get the book DNS and
BIND (3rd Edition!) by Albitz and Liu. Makes life a lot easier and gives a
very good overwiew of the whole process.
Cheers,
Ingo
