Very strange situation, Told I need to enable Zone Transfers

Hi,

This may seem strange but here goes,

I tried to add some secondary DNS's to our domian webfront.net.au, But
I keep getting told our Primary DNS server (www.webfront.net.au) is not
Authorative for webfront.net.au

This server has been the primary DNS for over 2 years since it was registered.

Doing a NSlookup on www.webfront.net.au for webfront.net.au responds with a
non-authorative answer

Connect.com.au who look after the net.au domains say that I need to enable
Zone Transfers, will this help? If so how do I enable it, our Primary is
running 4.something and 8.2 on our secondary.

I got someone to run DNS Expert on the domain and it said it couldn't find
an Authorative NS for the domain!, Can a domain exist without an
Authorative NS? 

I am very confused at the moment and any help would be gratefully appreciated
