wildcards?

Is there a simple way to have *.host.domain.com resolve to a single IP
address.
Wishful thinking would be a record in a given domains domain with
something file like:
*.host IN A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  so that *.host.domain.com would resolve to
the same ip address.
I am thinking of this in the context of the latest Apache 1.3.7 and its
mod_vhost_alias capabilitles
