What is the difference between domain and zone?

A domain is just a name registered with a NIC and referred to in your 
named.conf or named.boot file.  A zone file is a domain.db file set up to 
determine what IP address that name is BINDING to and what aliases that name 
has, such as ecommerce.gtconex.com.
