Problems with DNS

I am trying to install a very basic master DNS server. I am using BIND 8
that comes with SOlaris 7.  When starting in.named I get no errors. But
hwen i point to the nameserver and perform an nslookup, I get the
following error:

*** Can't find server name for address xxx.xxx.xx.xx: Server failed


Could someone point me in the right direction and tell me where the
problem may reside?
