Due to security paranoia and/or a misguided belief that everyone should
adhere to legacy Internet standards regardless of whether they're running
their nameserver on the Internet or not, BIND rejects underscores in names
by default. You can override this aberrant behavior with the check-names
option, but only at the expense of blinding yourself to other types of
(legitimate) name errors. The most practical thing is to avoid the use of
underscores in new names altogether. Just tell your users that underscores
are "illegal"; I'm sure they'll understand.
