Hi,

the bind 9 is normally not so slow, so something on your yerver must be
wrong. To find out what it is answer a few questions:

*what gives cat /etc/resolv.conf
*what gives netstat -r
*on startup, which interfaces is named using? (This info you can find in
/var/log/syslog or /var/adm/messages or your named.info)
*have you enabled the logging of your named?
*are there log-messages about lame servers?

And have a look on a tcpdump while you dig your nameserver.
