What errors were logged when named started up?
You are certain that you are running 8.2.1 and not 8.2 or ealier
(ndc support was broken on Solaris for 8.2 and earlier versions
used signals)?
Can you send all the messages between "named starting" and
"ready to answer"?
Are you running named as a user other than root?
You can still use ndc in signal mode (ndc -s) if you have to.
