dhcp client recommendations

Hello,

We're currently setting up ISC dhcpd/ddns for use in our data center. Everything server side functions exactly as expected. Client side is where we have questions, so forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask. In the case of a dhcp server failure, we were hoping to have clients (CentOS 6/7, Ubuntu 14/16/18.04) retry indefinitely.

We've done some research into dhclient and NetworkManager but have yet to find a straightforward answer in the man pages/google searches. This leads me to two questions.

1. Does anyone know how to accomplish this or have other recommendations?
2. The lack of straightforward answers has me wondering; should I be rethinking my problem or approaching it from a different angle?

Thanks in advance.
