I just tried it with a fresh install of Ubuntu, on another internal subnet
range (10.10.0.0/24), and it seems like slightly improved behavior is
exhibited.

First DHCP request (during the install):

Dec 7 20:16:18 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 52:54:00:28:49:b9 via
em1

Dec 7 20:16:19 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 10.10.0.214 to
52:54:00:28:49:b9 via em1

Dec 7 20:16:19 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 10.10.0.214 (10.10.0.1)
from 52:54:00:28:49:b9 via em1
Dec 7 20:16:19 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPACK on 10.10.0.214 to
52:54:00:28:49:b9 via em1

First reboot post-install:
Dec 7 20:46:43 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 52:54:00:28:49:b9 via
em1
Dec 7 20:46:44 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 10.10.0.214 to
52:54:00:28:49:b9 via em1
Dec 7 20:46:44 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 10.10.0.214 (10.10.0.1)
from 52:54:00:28:49:b9 via em1
Dec 7 20:46:44 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: DHCPACK on 10.10.0.214 to
52:54:00:28:49:b9 (dnstest2) via em1
Dec 7 20:46:44 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: Added new forward map from
dnstest2.example.net to 10.10.0.214
Dec 7 20:46:44 $OPENBSDHOST dhcpd: Added reverse map from
214.0.10.10.in-addr.arpa. to dnstest2.example.net

Is it consistent, or does it vary ?

So it does seem to vary OS to OS. CoreOS required a subsequent reboot,
while Ubuntu did the right thing (sent its hostname) upon the first
post-install boot.

Sounds like I'm off to look for a potential bug to file regarding sending
the hostname as part of the DHCP request for CoreOS.

Thanks all,
