IIRC from having read the RFCs "some time ago", the recommendation is that this should only be used if the device does not have the persistent storage needed to use one of the other types. Thus only a small subset of devices (likely very small these days) is likely to use it.

Unless you have a very controlled user base, then it's unlikely you can control what type of DUID is used, and there is at least one option that does not in any way contain any MAC address.
