DHCP Server Configuration Problem

[y vasavi]

give the command 

locate dhcpd

find the path of the dhcpd, let us suppose it is /usr/sbin/dhcpd


then 

locate dhcpd.conf

find the path of the dhcpd.conf, if you dont find one then create a configuration file

lets suppose it is /etc/dhcpd.conf

then give the command

/usr/sbin/dhcpd  -cf /etc/dhcpd.conf

Firstly, thanks for your answer.
My distribution est Ubuntu 8.04. I installed dhcpd from source sur le site de isc. And i have tried with sudo, so i was in the root mode.
 
I haven't found the file dhcpd.conf in /etc/init.d either.
For more info. Hope that this infos will help you to find out a solution. Thanks so much.

You need to provide some information !

What OS/Distribution are you running ?
How did you install DHCPD - from source, from package for your OS ?
Are you logged in as a regular user or root ?

Many distributions put the config files in 
different places - for example Debian Etch puts 
the config files in /etc/dhcp3/. Similarly, most 
packaged installations also provide scripts for 
starting/stopping the service and applying config 
options - again for Debian this would be 
/etc/init.d/dhcpd [start | stop | restart ] for 
control and defaults for command line options 
would be specified in /etc/default/dhcpd
