Laptop and subnet question

I've got a user who plugs his laptop into our
network on either the 10.0.1 subnet or the
10.0.2 subnet. His TCP/IP is set statically
which means he has to change his address each
time and reboot.
The DHCP machine is on the 10.0.1 subnet, 10.0.2
is connected across a couple of Cisco routers on
a 56k frame.
Is there a way I can have DHCP determine which
subnet he's on and assign him an address
appropriately?
If not, any suggestions to make it easier for
this guy?
