Bind99 and a slave named server

Eh... You can ALWAYS get your data in "text" format using dig.

I'm afraid to ask, but why do you need to move from master to slave when your master is down?

If it's down that long and very often, you may want to consider putting your DNS on a reliable server/circuit/data center.
