minimal-responses on all authoritative servers

What would the effect be of configuring all of the authoritative servers for
a given zone with "minimal-responses yes;"?  Do DNS servers trying to find
answers in a zone do explicit NS and A record queries to find the
authoritative data or will they just take the delegation/glue from the
parent and cache it, having never gotten a more credible set of NS/A records
from the authoritative servers when querying said servers for the original
record in question?
