DNS Response Time?

Hi, 
 

I have 4 slave nameservers running bind 9.3.3rc2 which provide service
to our internal network. All of them are behind a foundry load balancer.


 

We monitor our servers using mrtg. Base on the mrtg graphs, I noticed
that at random times (but not frequently) that the dns response time
vary from 1 - 10 sec.  I have read that dns query should not take that
long specially when queries are coming from the internal network for
authoritative zones. Any ideas or has anyone experience this about this
topic? What should be the acceptable dns response time or watermark?
