No you don't have to precreate files. Just make sure you specify the
file name in the zone, then start named and when the zone transfer
happen bind will create the file for you.

This may show my old age but I've worked with an operating system
(Bull DPS) where the sysadmin, yes, had to create the file in advance
and, worse, had to specify the maximum size it will reach.
