Cache only DNS help needed

Dear All 

I am facing strange problem running cache only dns . 
My domain let suppose is example.net

when i try to resolve mms.example.net it is appending
.net by itself  here is nslookup output 

but i run snoop to check 

root at smtp-02 # nslookup
Default Server:  localhost.example.net
Address:  127.0.0.1

> mms.example.net
Server:  localhost.example.net
Address:  127.0.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    mms.example.net.net
Address:  10.10.10.30


ANy idea what would be wrong
