Hi all,

I have an overall idea of how DNS works but I have lots of gaps in the
details.

For example I was tracing a nslookup for a www.whatever.com and in the
trace I see that the first dns packet is Standard query A
www.whatever.com.local.lan to which I get a response of no such name.
The next dns packet is Standard query A www.whatever.com which gets
correctly resolved. So my question is why am i taggin local.lan on the
end of my original query? is this normal can I eliminate this original
query?

cheers
Paul
