I believe it to be dns delays.

The users that stick to their m*#{[ explorer do not complain and further
investigation leads me to suspect that browser does a per session caching
(?!) of what it has resolved, connecting and displaying sites almost
instantanously while good old FireFox stays at "Looking up xxx" for at least
half a second (sometimes longer)

Querying the server directly by using nslookup (on Linux) produces the same .5
to 2sec delay the users are complaining about for the first resolve of a
given domain. Subsequent resolves for the same domain are instantanous but
this cache is very short timewise (10-30min)

With kind regards

Andy
