DNS problems - what is wrong?

I'm having still mail problems with some servers - mainly in Germany but
there may be others elsewhere. We are running Tinydns.
Could you please comment ?

I checked the domain daadjp.com against the following name servers:
     a) our own (ns.choicenet.ne.jp = tokyo.choicenet.ne.jp,
ns02.choicenet.ne.jp)
     b) merlin.daad.de (bind 8.1)  - seems to have a timeout of 2 secs
     c) deneb.dfn.de (bind 9.2.3)
     d) mail1.rrz.uni-koeln.de (bind 9.2.3)

dnsq tests (Tinydns check program)
----------------------------------------------------------
    a) dnsq mx daadjp.com 203.141.151.81
         -> finds mail.daadjp.com and mail02.daadjp.com

   b) dnsq mx daadjp.com merlin.daad.de
       -> answer: 1+0+2+1, but no MX recs returned

   c) dnsq mx daadjp.com deneb.dfn.de
       -> 500 bytes: answer: 1+0+13+14, but no MX recs

   d) dnsq mail1.rrz.uni-koeln.de
       -> 171 bytes, 1+2+2+3 recs, MX and NS returned

dig tests
-------------
   a) dig mx daadjp.com @203.141.151.81
	-> flags: qr rd ra,   1+2+0+0
	-> MX recs returned

  b) dig mx daadjp.com @merlin.daad.de
      -> 2 servers found, connection timed out, no servers could be
reached
 
   c) dig mx daadjp.com @deneb.dfn.de
       -> 1 server found, flags: qr rd  , 1+0+13+14

   d) dig mx daadjp.com @mail1.rrz.uni-koeln.de
       -> 1 server found, flags: qr rd ra, 1+2+2+3
      -> MX and NS recs returned
