Can you have a master zone and forward the same zone?

I seen in the BIND book that you can override a global
forwarder by specifying a null list of forwarders for the
zone.  Can I use that when we're talking about a higher
level zone in relation to a suboridnate zone (execuse
my bad terminology)?
