Sorry to start off on a bad note. I thought I had tried the suggested -u
option, but I had obviously not done it correctly. This worked, and my name
server is up and running. Sorry to waste your time on my first post, I hope
further posts will be more productive.

Subject: Named Won't Start, could not listen

Hi,

I know this question has been asked before, but I just can't figure out what
to do.

I am running FreeBSD 5.3 with Bind 8 (also tried 9) and get the following
errors when trying to start named

Creating IPv4 interface rl0 failed: interface ignored

Could not listen on UDP socket: address in use

Which goes on and on. Again I know it has been mentioned that it is trying
to make a new connection, which it can't do, and something about dropping
root, but I have no idea how to get it to work.

It is a new clean install, and I am running it as root.

Any help would be much appreciated.
